This year's Tasting Events series starts in April with SLY DOG Spiced Rum.
Sat 26th April
Crowned the world’s best traditionally spiced rum at the World Rum Awards.
Join us on Saturday 26th April between 11am and 2pm for a delicious tasting event featuring SLY DOG Spiced Rum. Crowned the world’s best traditionally spiced rum at the World Rum Awards, SLY DOG is crafted from a blend of aged Caribbean rums sourced from a carbon-neutral distillery in the Dominican Republic and offers a smooth, balanced profile with subtle caramel notes.
SLY DOG was created by brothers Louis and Bruce who wanted to create a rum that was anything but ordinary; “The combination of our secret tropical spices with our fiery Caribbean rum delivers a smooth, arming and exquisite taste with a soft sweetness that is seriouSLY delicious.”
During the tasting, Sly Dog will share the rum’s unique character of vanilla, maple and toffee notes. Sly Dog recommends serving their spiced rum chilled with ginger beer and a splash of lime. It’s also delightful over ice or paired with cola.
Sat 3rd May
Exmoor Distillery produce classic and navy strength gins, spiced rum and vodka.
Last year two new gins joined our range; Northmore’s light on the lips, full bodied gin at 44% ABV and their Navy Strength at 57% ABV. Originating from the 18th Century, Navy Strength gin is having a new growth in popularity. While the alcohol content is higher, Northmoor has created a recipe that delivers a smooth and enjoyable textured flavour thanks to botanicals selected to work well with the higher alcohol content.
Exmoor Distillery also makes one of the few rums from scratch in the UK using traditional methods of fermentation and both pot and column distillation techniques. In addition to their spiced rum, Exmoor Distillery ages small batches in house using the finest ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry firkin casks. Look closely. As you savour each sip in these limited edition bottles, the legendary stag of Exmoor emerges on the bottle, a reminder of the untamed wilderness where this exceptional rum was born.
The final spirit in Exmoor’s collection is their Barle Valley Botanical Vodka. This is column-distilled and activated carbon filtered before being proofed with Exmoor aquifier water. Exmoor then infuse it with their secret blend of botanicals which include pink peppercorn and vanilla.
Come along to Tetbury Wines on Saturday 3rd May between 11am and 2pm to sample Exmoor’s classic and navy strength gins, their spiced rum and vodka.

Last year’s tasting with the 6 O’Clock Gin distillery was so popular they’re coming back.
Last year’s tasting with the 6 O’Clock Gin distillery was so popular they’re coming back for another event. Between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 31st May, there will be tastings of both their classic London Dry Gin plus a selection of their fruited and spiced gins.
Distilled in Bristol, 6 O’Clock London Dry Gin is liked for its clean, citrus-led profile with delicate juniper and floral undertones. Perfectly balanced, it shines with a premium tonic or as the base for classic cocktails like a martini or a negroni.

Arranging a wine shop can require some creative thinking. Few retail outlets have almost all of their stock be so similar (over 90% of what we sell comes in a 75cl glass bottle) and yet have so many categories from the basic (red, white, rose, orange) to the detailed (such as vintage). Some customers know they are looking for a Montepulciano and head straight to the Italian section but one of the first things we say to customers when we ask whether we can help is how they can find their way around.
A quick tour of Tetbury wines.
1) By country and region
Our shelving was custom made to fit seven bottles across each section (excluding the occasional absurdly tall bottle – we’re looking at you Germany!) and each represents a country or region. As of today, Austria, Romania and Bulgaria are sharing a space, Portugal gets one to itself and Italy gets five (one of which is just wine from Tuscany and one shared by Puglia and Sicily).
2) By type
Of course every rule has its exception and so sparkling, pudding and fortified are categorised by type. As is rose. Unless its English rose, then its with English wine.
3) By price (kind of)
Look down the centre of the shop and you’ll see the wines Paul calls “high days and holidays” but its less about price than it is about helping the customers shopping for specific villages, read the labels. Towards the back of the shop are cases of wine that there’s a discount on when bought by the case. They are there because we sell a lot of them. So we need a lot in the shop. All of these bottles are also on the shelves but people still like to look for themselves.
4) Vegetarian, Vegan, Organic, Natural Wine, No Added Sulphur and Biodynamic
These wines can be found in two ways. One way is to look closely at the tags on the bottles as we use a key (O = Organic and so on). There is also a list at the till so you can look through them, find the country and then head to that area.
5) By temperature
We have a chiller and especially on hot days we get customers choosing from what is ready to drink. Naturally our range of picnic wines in cans and plastic bottles live here.
6) By occasion
Beyond the fine wines classification there are larger bottles towards the back of the shop (our cigar humidor lives with the magnums), gift boxes of miniatures plus the aforementioned sparkling and English wine (which is a popular souvenir).
The shop makes sense to us and perhaps the only thing that can have us running circuits around the fine wines is when someone wants a particular grape such as a Chardonnay (since Southern France faces Australia).

As the air turns crisp and the nights grow longer, HalloWINE draws near - time to stock up on the perfect snacks and sips to see you through the spooky season. Whether you are hosting a Halloween bash or planning a cosy night in, Tetbury Wines has you covered; crisps that are sure to keep vampires at bay, and wines that bring the perfect balance of indulgence and fright. Let’s dive into the perfect pairings!
A garlic lover’s dream
Our Two Farmers Woodland Mushroom & Wild Garlic crisps are bursting with earthy, garlicky goodness and will keep any vampires from darkening your door! For something with a bit of a cheesy twist, the Hereford Hop Cheese & Onion crisps are also intensely flavoured. Both varieties are hand-cooked and locally sourced from Herefordshire, bringing the best of British produce to your Halloween spread.
Stock up on boo’s
Nothing says Halloween like a bottle of something rich, complex, and with a story to tell. We’ve handpicked three wines to elevate your spooky season, each with its own chilling character.
Pitchfork Shiraz - The bold, spicy flavours of this Australian Shiraz are as striking as the name suggests. With notes of dark fruit and a peppery kick, it’s perfect for pairing with savoury bites like the Hop Cheese & Onion crisps. Ideal for warming up on a chilly October night, this wine’s intensity will leave you wanting more.
The Dead Arm Shiraz - What is Halloween without a wine with a little macabre story? This Shiraz gets its name from a vine disease that affects one arm of the vine, leaving the other to produce grapes of incredible concentration. Deep, brooding, and full of intense dark fruit flavours, this wine has earned a place in Halloween lore. Pair it with Two Farmers Mushroom & Wild Garlic crisps for a truly haunting match - the garlic in the crisps will bring out the wine’s savoury, earthy undertones.
Chateau Jany Sauternes - The perfect sweet treat for Halloween night. This French dessert wine, made from grapes affected by Noble Rot (a beneficial mould that concentrates the sweetness), is all about balance. Its honeyed, luscious flavours contrast beautifully with the savoury elements of the crisps, particularly the Mushroom & Wild Garlic. If you’re after a sweet-savoury pairing, this is the one for you. Halloween is all about balance—the thrills and chills, the sweet and the savoury.
Stop by our Tetbury shop to stock up on all your Halloween goodies - crisps to keep vampires at bay and wines to satisfy your most haunted cravings.

Explore the rich flavours of the Haut-Médoc at our next wine tasting event at Tetbury Wines on Saturday 12th October. Discover two outstanding wines from this famed Bordeaux subregion, known for producing elegant, structured red wines.
Le Haut-Médoc de Haut-Bages Libéral 2016
A beautiful wine from a historic estate in Pauillac, this 2016 vintage is a fine example of the sophistication of Haut-Médoc wines. With Claire Villars-Lurton at the helm, this wine offers a perfect balance of dark fruits, oak, and firm tannins, providing depth and complexity. Expect a long, smooth finish that pairs well with red meats, game, and mature cheeses.
Les Calèches de Lanessan 2015
This second wine of Château Lanessan delivers exceptional value for a wine of its pedigree. From the 2015 vintage, known for its warmth and ripeness, this wine is rich with notes of blackcurrant, spice, and a touch of leather. It is softer and more approachable in its youth than the grand vin, making it an excellent choice for anyone wanting to experience Bordeaux without the need for extended cellaring.
At the tasting, you’ll have the chance to explore the distinct personalities of these two wines. The tasting will take place between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, 12th October, at Tetbury Wines. Whether you are a Bordeaux enthusiast or just starting your wine journey, this event is open to all.

At Tetbury Wines, we are always looking for new ways to bring a bit of fun to our shop and connect with our wonderful local community. This year, we were thrilled to participate in the annual Tetbury Music Festival shop window dressing competition, where local businesses got creative with musical-themed displays. For our window, we decided to play on one of our favorite instruments—the flute. And what better way to highlight that than with some elegant champagne flutes alongside a magnum of our finest Gardet Champagne?
It was a cheeky pun seems we struck the right note. We were especially delighted when the festival’s guest judge, Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen, stopped by to take a closer look. Known for his flair and eye for design, Lawrence gave our window an approving nod—particularly enjoying our flute pun! The Tetbury Music Festival is always a highlight of the year, and we’re proud to have been part of this creative celebration of music and community.
Do pop by the shop to check out our display (and maybe pick up a bottle of bubbly while you’re here). Let’s raise a glass to music, Tetbury, and a bit of good-natured fun. Here’s to more great moments in the heart of our lovely town.

Bordeaux has a diverse and complex terroir with a variety of soil types and a temperate maritime climate whose warm summers and plenty of rain benefit grape ripening. The gentle hills and river valleys are home to the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Franc that make up the famous Bordeaux blends. 4. Chateau Haut-Rian 1er Cotes de Bordeaux, Cadillac
This 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc blend is a “mouthful of fresh red fruits.”
5. Vieux Chateau Bayard, Montagne St Emillon
This 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon blend has lots of juicy fruit initially then chewy tannins; often described as “a wine of two halves.”
6. Chateau des Pelerins, Pomerol
Another blend of the three famous grapes at 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this Pomerol has aromas of chocolate and plums with velvet tannins.
7. Chateau Jany, Sauternes
Our final wine is a pudding wine made from Semillon grapes and has lemon and grapefruit on the nose then flavours of apricot and mango.

Raising a glass to a year of wonderful memories, we are about to have the one-year anniversary of the Tetbury Wines shop. It has been an incredible journey since we first opened our doors, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing customers and the local community.
Since opening, our shop on Church Street has become a destination for wine enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike. We have curated an exceptional selection of wines from around the world, offering everything from local favorites to rare finds. Our staff has been dedicated to helping you discover the perfect bottle for every occasion, whether it's a cosy night in or a festive gathering with friends.
Tetbury Wines started in 2020 but last year’s opening of the shop saw us really grow and our team expanded to include our delivery driver Scott, and Kathryn who works in the shop two days a week and helps with our marketing. The shop has provided us a venue for wine tasting events with our Christmas tasting being especially well attended.
To celebrate, we’re opening some champagne on Saturday, 7th September. We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we have received over the past year, and we can’t wait to toast to the future with our wine club members.
However, our focus is always on the future and we have tastings for Bordeaux Month (21st of September), Wines of the Haut-Medoc (12th of October), Rioja Month (23rd November) and this year’s Christmas tasting (28th November).
Cheers to many more years ahead!

Cigars have a rich and fascinating history that dates back to ancient civilisations. The practice of smoking tobacco in a rolled form can be traced to the indigenous peoples of the Americas, who were using tobacco for ceremonial and medicinal purposes. When Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World in 1492, he and his crew encountered the practice of smoking rolled tobacco leaves. This encounter marked the beginning of the cigar's journey to Europe. By the early 16th century, cigars had made their way to Spain, and it wasn’t long before they spread across the continent. The Spanish were the first to cultivate tobacco on a large scale, leading to the establishment of cigar factories.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, cigars became a symbol of luxury and sophistication. They were often associated with the elite and wealthy classes, especially in places like Cuba, which became renowned for its high-quality cigar production. The introduction of mechanised production in the late 19th century made cigars more accessible to the masses, yet they retained their celebratory connotation, often being smoked during significant life events such as weddings, births, and promotions.
Tetbury Wines Training
On Wednesday, August 22nd, Tetbury Wines held a staff training session with Patrick from Hunters & Frankau focused on our range of homemade cigars and their new humidor. Proper humidity and temperature control are crucial for maintaining the flavour and integrity of cigars and while ours call the humidor home, each of our cigars is sold in a cedar-lined case to ensure it stays in perfect condition until you are ready to smoke it.
Following our training, Tetbury Wines now sells Havana and other fine cigars. Our Havana cigars come from the Pinar del Rio region to the west of Havana and as a Product of Designated Origin (PDO) the leaves in their production is grown from the Tabasco Negro Cubano seed and are grown through two processes known as shade-grown and sun-grown. Whether you choose Havana or one of our other fine cigars, our entire range is handmade, ensuring a quality that compliments that of our wines.

Nestled in the heart of Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, Chateau Musar stands as a beacon of winemaking excellence and tradition. With a history dating back to 1930, this estate has earned a distinguished place in the world of wine. At Tetbury Wines, we are proud to stock the 2017 vintage, including the remarkable Imperial size bottle, which holds an impressive 6 litres of this stellar wine.
Chateau Musar was founded by Gaston Hochar, whose vision was to produce wines that reflected the unique terroir of Lebanon. The estate's vineyards are situated at an altitude of 1,000 metres, benefiting from a climate that combines Mediterranean warmth with cooler mountain influences. The philosophy at Chateau Musar emphasises minimal intervention in the winemaking process. Grapes are harvested by hand and the wines are fermented using natural yeasts, which helps to preserve the authentic flavours and characteristics of the region. The 2017 vintage is a testament to this philosophy, showcasing the rich, complex flavours that have made Château Musar a household name among wine enthusiasts.
The 2017 vintage of Chateau Musar is a true expression of the vineyard's heritage and the exceptional terroir of the Bekaa Valley. This vintage is characterised by its deep, ruby colour and an aromatic profile that captivates the senses. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault, it has notes of ripe dark fruits, spices, and hints of oak, it offers a rich and full-bodied experience that is both elegant and powerful. On the palate, the wine reveals layers of complexity, with flavours of blackcurrant, plum, and subtle earthy undertones. The well-structured tannins and balanced acidity contribute to a long, satisfying finish, making it a perfect companion for hearty dishes or a delightful experience on its own.

After English Wine Week, which was met with almost unanimous interest, our involvement in 31 Days of Riesling was a little different. With its exquisite balance of acidity, fruitiness, and versatility, Riesling has become a favourite among wine enthusiasts around the globe. It is elegant and aromatically pure but a few people coming into Tetbury Wines had some negative connotations with cheap sweet wines popular in the 1980s and 90s.
A fascinating grape
Riesling is grown on every continent except Antarctica but 40% is produced in Germany, mostly along the Rhine River. It has an official Birthday of 13th March 1435 due to the cellar logs of Count Katzenelnbogen which records Klaus Kleinfish purchasing six Riesling vines. Those who love it really do and our promotional price for July for Fritz Willi put a smile on the face of its fans.
We had tastings each Saturday and while the people most interested in trying some already appreciated Riesling, it was almost unanimously agreed that our selection reflected some rather lovely wines.
Where are we heading after England and Germany?
In August we are running our Cycles Gladiator competition but September is Bordeaux Wine Month and we are heading a little further South to the second largest wine-producing area in France, Bordeaux.

South African Maker, Jonathan Grieve
It was a “leaf day” on Wednesday 17th July meaning that according to biodynamics, energy is more focused on the leaves and stems of the plants, rather than the fruit. Wines consumed on leaf days may exhibit characteristics that highlight their freshness and vibrancy. Whether or not, the members of Oakridge Lynch Wine Club felt there was more pronounced acidity, herbal notes and a lighter overall profile than the wines might otherwise have, the room was filled with enthusiasm for the wines.
A very special guest
Tetbury Wines hosted the tasting and featured the wines from Avondale Wines, one of the world’s leading biodynamic wine producers. Speaking from his farm in Paarl, South Africa, Avondale owner Johnathan Grieve joined the group virtually to talk everyone through his wines and philosophy. His passion for their wine making principles employed in both the vineyard and winery left many present adding Avondale to the top of their bucket list of wineries to visit.
Jonty’s Ducks
One of the popular wines was the Pekin White from Avondale’s, Jonty’s Ducks range. The ducks are the “Guardians of the vines” and their patrols keep snails under control as one of the ways the vineyard stays nature friendly. The wine itself fully embodies Avondale’s ethos, “Terra Est Vita” – Soil is Life as an elegant, slow made wine.
If your Wine Club is looking for an unforgettable wine event, we invite you to consider Tetbury Wines as your host. We are passionate about creating memorable experiences and would love to bring the world of wine to your members. Get in touch

With a mission to bridge the gender gap in the street art world, DMA provides talented female muralists the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the urban landscape.
